Reception (4+ Entry)

Reception (4+ Entry)

So, what is it that makes Newton Prep special? We are a forward thinking, dynamic school which is wholly committed to the dual aims of helping children achieve their academic potential whilst also enjoying their precious childhood years.

We want them to love learning, to engage with the many, many opportunities the School offers them and to be a kind and supportive friend.

We have four classes of children in Reception. About 40 or so children come up from our own Nursery and they are joined by about 40 children who are new to the school. Children quickly establish new friendships. They love to play in the large playground, to use our school garden and to do PE in one of our three sports halls. The pitch and pace of the curriculum in the classroom is ambitious; we want them to get off to a flying start with their English and maths. They also are taught music, computing, French and PE by our team of wonderful specialist staff. After school there are clubs and activities for them to do.

In addition, they enjoy a number of different workshops such as drama workshops and visits from the local fire brigade and the city farm, all of which enrich their experience of school life. Examples of very popular moments are the weekly reading time when they can share a book with the adult who brings them to school that morning, celebrating the end of a topic on Space with a dress-up day, releasing the butterflies that grew from the caterpillars they have nurtured in their classrooms, joining the older children in Lower School to share weekly achievements in an assembly and working together to film their own stories using iPads, sharing these with their families on their online journal.

Life in Reception is full of interest and sheer love of learning.

So, what do our parents think of Newton Prep?

"The teaching staff are exceptional. I was so impressed with how quickly they 'got' my children"

"Fantastic facilities for central London, strong academics and yet nurturing environment"

"Happy prep school. Outstanding and robust curriculum tailored to our children's needs"

"It feels more representative of London than other prep schools; the playground at pick up is filled with parents from all sorts of backgrounds with lots to talk about other than London property prices."

"Happy children who achieve academic success."
