Pi-Off gets a round of applause!

Pi-Off gets a round of applause!
Assembly Academic

One of our last Assemblies this term saw four children pitted against one another to recite the most number of digits of pi.  Aidan J in Year 8, Coco N in Year 6 and Rahul R  and Ava C from Year 5 ran circles around each other, with Coco and Rahul the eventual winners with an astounding 200+ places recited!

March 14th, known as pi day to maths enthusiasts in America (3.14 - geddit?) has inspired children throughout the Upper School to memorise this famous, frustratingly irrational, ratio, using an array of memory techniques, some of which are explained in the following video. The extraordinary feats of the winners caused the audience to be round-faced in bewilderment, pi-eyed with amazement. Within the Newton Prep sphere this will now become a cyclical event, celebrated annually. A round of applause for the winners!
