Lock down on Lockington!

Lock down on Lockington!
Parents

Don’t drive into Lockington Road!

Like Cassandra on the walls of Troy, we must warn once more of the utter madness of bringing cars into Lockington Road for the foreseeable future for drop-off and pick-up. Parents will have noticed the arrival of construction teams at St Mary’s RC Primary opposite. Work has now started on the new Taylor Wimpey project, building new school premises for St Mary’s and 290 residential units and a team from Newton has met with contractors Midgard to ensure effective community liaison.

Midgard have assured us that they will work with sensitivity around our need for quiet times during exams etc and have provided us with contact details of those managing the project onsite, so we are on the case. Over the next few months, however, before they are able to change access to the project to come in from the back of Queenstown Road, most of the construction traffic will be through Lockington Road. All space for parking in Gladstone Terrace at the end of Lockington Rd will be removed, while hoardings erected in both roads will inevitably have an effect on the turning space available. Isolating and altering services, as part of the pre-pilings preparation, will present their own challenges, given that most of these services are usually in the road.

The message is simple: steer clear of Lockington.
