Bright children, exceptional opportunities

Newton Prep is an independent preparatory school and nursery in Battersea, South West London for boys and girls aged 3 to 13.

Making the decision about your child’s schooling is one of the most important you will make as a family. We are very fortunate in London to have so many good prep schools to choose from and many of your friends and associates will have a view about the ‘best’ schools.

So, why Newton?

Firstly, we think you will find us to be a very happy community. Newton Prep children are full of life, spark and character. We celebrate their individuality and do not try to force them into a particular way of being. They form strong friendships here and the relationships between the staff and the children are positive and mutually respectful. We are a big prep school. We have over 600 children on roll (about 300 in the Pre-Prep and 300 in the Prep) and yet the pastoral care is exceptional. The children know each other very well and so do their teachers. In addition, we have outstanding facilities. With a 300-seat auditorium, a 120-seat Recital Hall, a music technology suite, 3 state-of-the-art science labs, a wonderful library and spacious classrooms, the children have many opportunities to develop their interests and enthusiasms. From the outside, you might not realise that we also have a very large all-weather pitch and a huge playground for our Lower School (Pre-Prep) children to play on.  When they come to apply for senior schools (at 11+ or 13+) our children are well prepared for the increasingly competitive exams and assessments they must take.

Newton Prep is academically ambitious. That does not mean to say we reduce their educational experience down to slavishly slogging through practice papers but it does mean that we have the ‘best’ schools in our sights - whether that be a London day school or a boarding school well beyond the limits of the M25.

Our sincere hope is that, as you look through this website you will feel inclined to come and visit us. If you would like to join one of the Headmistress's weekly small group tours, please contact Mrs Fleming's PA, Emma Faulkner at hmpa@newtonprep.co.uk

“We just wanted to say an enormous thank you for a spectacular evening last night…We had no idea how amazing the results were going to be. At the interval, a recurring statement among the parents was ‘this is why we send our children to Newton’.” [Parent]

“Something that has struck me is how our great facilities and curriculum make science practical, fun and enjoyable across all year groups. It’s been an absolute pleasure to be a part of the science team, where I consistently hear from parents that their children love science. At least three quarters of parents I meet at parents’ evenings have said so!” [Teacher]

Pupils

Newton Prep pupils are happy, busy, challenged and thriving. They develop intellectual rigour, curiosity, and a thirst for knowledge. Teachers

Newton Prep is an exciting place to teach, and we are fortunate to have a bright, enthusiastic group of teachers who are innovative, creative, and reflective. Our teachers share their passion and enthusiasm for their subjects with the pupils.

“My son has received an excellent education at Newton which has set him up to him to have a lot of choice about his future…He has had so many excellent teachers over his nine years at the school, but I did just want to make a special mention about his English teacher. She has been a genuinely inspirational teacher and led him to have a great love of reading and creative writing. This is no mean feat as so often boys can lose this interest, particularly sporty boys.” [Parent]

Scholarships and Bursaries

Since Newton Prep’s foundation, two of the School’s main aims have been to celebrate academic excellence and to bring the education the School offers within reach of bright children whose parents have palpable difficulty in meeting the fees. The Newton Bursary Fund offers means-tested top-up bursaries to children of scholarship ability whose families require financial assistance. Newton Prep also awards academic scholarships without means testing.

“You kindly offered our son a scholarship to attend Newton Prep…It was a time of great financial strain for us and the scholarship made it possible for us to send [him] to Newton Prep. After Newton [he] went on to attend Kings College Wimbledon [and] St John’s Cambridge ....We wanted to write and tell you of [his] progress, and to thank you personally for spotting [his] abilities and giving us the confidence to support him through his school career.”
