Welcome to The Lower School at Newton Prep!

We provide exciting and stimulating learning within a happy, supportive and safe pre-prep environment. We teach and care for children between the ages of three and seven.

We have two vibrant nurseries for three to four-year-olds with 24 children in each. We also have four classes in each of our other year groups. Our four to seven-year-olds are taught in classes of usually no more than 20 children by teachers who are well qualified and experienced. Our school is spacious and well-resourced. We provide all of our children with an excellent start to their school life.

At Newton Prep our children are always stimulated and busy. We encourage independence within a supportive and safe environment.

Apple Nursery

At Newton Prep Apple Nursery in Battersea, South West London our children are happy, busy, and stimulated! They love being at nursery school and always come racing in through the door after the weekend.

We take a holistic approach to learning, with plenty of hands-on experiences. Learning is always personalised and never forced – it is approached in a way that is creative, stimulating, engaging, and fun.

At Newton Prep Apple Nursery we encourage independence, and our children take ownership for their own learning which is based around their own interests. The classes are set up in a way that allows children to select and use resources independently. Our children are aware of their personal goals and get enthusiastic and excited about working towards them.

The Nursery rooms in the new Lower School are bright, colourful, and well-equipped with great resources including interactive whiteboards.

We pride ourselves on creating good links between home and school. We put a great deal of effort into the settling process for new children, and we have an open door policy for nursery parents. The individual learning plans that we prepare for each child are shared at home which allows a seamless transition for learning between home and school.

Our staff are well qualified and experienced – each class has one fully-trained teacher and two nursery nurses specialising in early years. Our nursery staff are enthusiastic and love what they do, and have created a fun, thriving environment for the children.

Lower School

In the Lower School, our staff are well qualified and experienced, and they plan for each child as an individual. Our children study a broad curriculum which balances all areas of learning within stimulating, fun and often investigative learning experiences. Each child is taught most subjects by his or her class teacher, with specialist teachers providing lessons in physical education, French and music. In addition, our six and seven-year-olds are also taught ICT and art by specialist teachers. Parent support is always welcomed and there are often times when we ask for help whether in the classroom, the garden or out of school on trips. We also provide a wide range of extra curricular activities for our five to seven-year-olds including gymnastics, tennis, fencing, drama, ballet, yoga, art, choir, strings group and chess amongst others. We offer individual tuition in a variety of musical instruments. Our children are given a first class start to their education and are well prepared for life in the Upper School at the age of seven.

"My daughter is very proud to be able to write her name, and doesn't seem to stop counting, singing or drawing, even when she gets home!" (Nursery Parent)
