Our Facilities

Visitors to Newton Prep are invariably impressed by the scale and range of our outstanding, state-of-the-art facilities. The school, in Battersea, has expanded above and around the original Edwardian school building. A modern extension provides a further sixteen classrooms, a multispace area, two gyms, a dining room and spacious art studios.

The school premises are bright and spacious with plenty of outside space including an all weather pitch, used for tennis, cricket, netball and football, as well as a school garden. All are enclosed within the 1.5 acres that adjoin the school building. Our fully equipped and refurbished (summer 2009) science and ICT suites plus computerised library of over 16,000 books provide superb learning spaces within the building. Of all these additions, perhaps the jewel in the crown is the Auditorium which was opened by Sir Peter Hall, at the time a Newton Prep parent, in November 2004. The space includes a professional sound and lighting system.

A major building project is now underway and is due to be completed in 2012. The new facilities will include a new building for Nursery and Years 1 and 2, a lower school assembly hall, a third gymnasium, new changing rooms, and a new music school.

The Auditorium

Providing a superb space for assemblies, plays, concerts and evening meetings, the auditorium seats some 300 children and adults.

The Library

Fully refurbished and enlarged in 2009, this beautiful and inviting space is stocked with over 16,000 books and overseen by a full-time librarian. Children can access the catalogue by computer. The Library is used by all children from Nursery to Year 8.

IT Suites

Adjacent to the Library are three air-conditioned ICT rooms each equipped with fully networked PCs for classes of twenty children and an interactive whiteboard. The ICT rooms are increasingly being used as an invaluable teaching resource across the full range of the curriculum.

Science Laboratories

Three new science laboratories were built on the second floor of the Old Building in the summer of 2009. Each laboratory is equipped with an area of tiered seating for demonstration and teaching purposes as well as modular benches for practical work.

The School Garden

Once a city farm, the school garden has been divided to create space for small allotments for the children to cultivate themselves, a lawn area as well as an orchard.

Sports Facilities

The 70m x 40m all-weather, floodlit astroturf is used by children of all ages for PE, games and as a recreational space in break times. Measuring nearly an acre, the astroturf provides an excellent surface for hockey, cricket, rounders and football.

Our sports facilities also include two cricket nets and two sprung wooden floored gymnasiums - one with bespoke wall bars and a range of child specific gymnastic equipment, the other equipped for indoor team sports.

Facilities Hire

Our Auditorium, Gymnasium and some of our spacious classrooms are available for hire during the holidays (including half term breaks).

Our All-Weather Pitch is available for hire for block bookings only during out of hours, and school holidays.
